“Oh Father” by: Madonna

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:48 am by Kristen

It’s funny that way, you can get used
To the tears and the pain
What a child will believe
You never loved me

You can’t hurt me now
I got away from you, I never thought I would
You can’t make me cry, you once had the power
I never felt so good about myself

Seems like yesterday
I lay down next to your boots and I prayed
For your anger to end
Oh Father I have sinned

Oh Father you never wanted to live that way
You never wanted to hurt me
Why am I running away

Maybe someday
When I look back I’ll be able to say
You didn’t mean to be cruel
Somebody hurt you too

Blogger grounded by her airline

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:16 am by Kristen

Hummm… Very interesting… Don’t you think? Anyway there is a link to her blog on the page. It’s kind of funny. The airline industry kind of in the pits right now… to say the least. And they will find any reason to get rid of you. I keep wishing I would get laid off… Severance pay, unemployment, (did I mention we get an extra 6 months as airline employees, thanks to 911)… I graduate in May from nursing school, just in time for my unemployment to run out… If only my boss was reading this….maybe he is… Posted by Hello

Name The Laptop Contest

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:59 pm by Kristen

Yes… I got it. It came to me Monday morning, around 9:30am… Whew!! It was quick!! Well I installed my wireless router about a week and a half earlier, so I wasn’t sure if it would work… I didn’t have anything wireless to try it out on. Well I opened the package, plugged in the computer, and tried to connect….Nothing….. I then fiddled with the router; re-did the whole encrypting, and networking thing, and then I got this genius idea… READ THE DIRECTIONS… Well wouldn’t you know; there is a button on the laptop that you have to push to turn the wireless on.

I took it on it’s first field trip to Borders last night. I though that I would try wireless in public. Guess what… It’s not free at Borders. You have to pay 39.95/month thru T-Mobile. That’s what I pay now for DSL at home!!! You could pay 9.99 for a days worth of internet, but I’d rather buy a cup of coffee and a Danish…. The good news is that wireless is free at school.

Took my second psych exam today and got a 92… It pays to study for more then 45 minutes!! I got a 51 (out of 55) on my last nursing theory test… So things are looking up!!!

Computer Screen Head Ache… And Other Fine News Of My Life

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:19 pm by Kristen

You know the headache that you get when you sit in front of the computer screen too long? Well I have one of those. You may say, “Why Kristen, you are sitting in front of the computer now…” I know… I know, but I have been pestered by several of you readers to blog something. It has been a while, but I have been busy with school.

For those of you who do not know, I am in my 2nd half of nursing school. I will be graduating in May (hopefully!!). This semester has been ruff for some reason. I don’t know why exactly why it is, but I suspect that I am still a bit burnt out from last semester (which was in the summer and was 10 weeks long instead of 16). This semester is when I get to do my psych, and pediatrics rotation. I am done with the rotations and now I am back to doing med/surge. I’m actually happy to be back doing that. I didn’t like pediatrics all that much…too sad.

Psych was interesting, but many of the people are habitually admitted for relapsing back into their drug habit. I think I would become discouraged seeing those people over and over again. It’s hard for a lot of people to feel compassionate for drug addicts. Watch someone detox for a while, and see…. The drug takes over their life, and the person has no control.

On a lighter note, I went to see George Carlin last weekend at Ruth Eckert Hall. I LOVE HIM!! He was quite funny and did some new material for his next HBO special (fall 2005, I think). It was so new that he didn’t have it all memorized yet and had to read from his notes at times. He said that that was the way he practiced, by performing it over and over, night after night. It’s good stuff and actually quite enlightening. He is a strange thinker, a comedic philosopher….

I am waiting for delivery of my new laptop computer. They say it will ship out on October 25. I hope it will ship sooner. It will probably ship out just a scheduled… For those geeky folks out there, here is what it’s got:

HP Pavilion zv5000t Notebook
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.80A GHz
15.4″ WXGA Widescreen (1280×800)
ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) 9000 IGP
512MB DDR SDRAM (2×256MB)
60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
Microsoft(R) Works/Money
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I ordered a wireless router too for the house. It’s already been delivered and I have installed it. Now I am anxiously waiting for the actual lap top. If you know of any free wi-fi hot spots in the St. Petersburg area, just let me know. I heard rumors that Borders at Tyrone Mall is a free hot spot. I guess I will try it out once I get the laptop.

We actually opened up the windows and turned off the air conditioner for the first time since mid April. It was in the mid 70’s this afternoon, with a slight breeze. Hopefully we will not have to turn the air conditioner on again till mid April.

To all my Muslim readers: Ramadan Mubarak! May Gods’ blessings be with you at this time.

Well this is all I can think of for now… Till next time!!!!

FactCheck.com – & the VP Debate

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:19 am by Kristen

“Well, the reason they keep mentioning Halliburton is because they’re trying to throw up a smokescreen. They know the charges are false. They know that if you go, for example, to FactCheck.com, an independent Web site sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania, you can get the specific details with respect to Halliburton.”-Last night’s VP debate, Vice President, Dick Cheney

UPDATE:The link now no longer works. It’s now a site that sell internet advertising or some thing, but it was funny while it lasted!!!

The Secret Diary of a Cat

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:28 am by Kristen

DAY 752 – My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from shredding on the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant and cough it up on the carpeting.

DAY 761 – Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair… must try this on their bed (again).

DAY 762 – Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was …Hmmm. Not working according to plan…

DAY 768 – I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called “shampoo.” What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth and the tiny bit of flesh under my claws.

DAY 771 – There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of “allergies.” Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 – I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured.

But I can wait; it is only a matter of time….

Clean The Toilet – The Fun Way!

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:01 am by Kristen

Another joke from my cousin Lenny….

  1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.
  2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
  3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.
  4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.
  5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a “power-wash” and rinse”.
  6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.
  7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.
  8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.
  9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

    Sincerely,
    The Dog
