“Miss Kitty”
New Cat, Name Pending…Originally uploaded by inkrisout.
If you have any ideas for names, let me know. Here is what I can tell you about her: She is a calico. She is 2 years old. She is extremely calm. She likes to sit in my lap. She sleeps with her tongue sticking out. So far her favorite spot (besides my lap) is behind the toilette.
****UPDATE****
After about 1 month of debate, I named her Miss Kitty.

What An A*%hole!
My cousin Charlies response to my mother regarding email that I sent:
“Sorry, unfortunately we are now running on the 100%/0.01% rule of thumb — The Americans have to be correct 100% of the time to stay alive, but it only takes one in 10,000 muslims who do follow one of the sects that want to kill all Christians and/or all Americans to result in a very bad situation.”
Yes, the man is single, in his 40’s and suspected to be in the closet by many in the family. Nuff said!!!

Dear Cousin Charlie
Do I have to remind you that my sister, your cousin (and child of your Aunt Helen), Teri is Muslim American (and so are her 6 children)??? Do you realize how much you hurt my mother? She finds your emails upsetting and spends time worrying about what to respond to your emails. Interestingly enough, you are so cowardly that you send these emails to my mother and not to my Muslim sister. Most of our family (the Martin side) find your views disgusting. You obviously haven’t been properly educated in religion. You are un-American, deplorable, hurtful, bigoted, and hateful of God and his citizens of the world.
Citizenship happens to be the passport you carry. Your belief in God (or Gods, if you may) is the personal path you take to your true Final Destination. It doesn’t require any particular religion, citizenship or passport to get There.
God goes by many names (99 plus). The great thing about Him is when you get to know Him, you can call Him by any name you see fit. Maybe you should take the time to finally get to know Him.
Please do not respond to this email, because quite honestly I don’t care what your view is. You have upset my mother and therefore have upset me.

It’s 24 Hours In A Day…Not 12
You know what frustrates me these days as a nurse? There are 24 hours in a day and I only work 12. I wish the night nurses that relieve the day nurses would understand that. "What do you mean you didn't give the dulcolax suppository?", The night nurse in a bitter tone askes me. This is after having a crazy day running my tail off with a fresh kidney and a fresh heart.
Excuse me? Give me a break!

The Puke and Poop Dilemma of a Rather New Nurse
One of the fears I had before I became a nurse was not being able to handle it when someone was throwing up. I could not stand the sound of dry (or not-so-dry) heaving without feeling a bit ill myself. What kind of nurse would I be, if I could not be there for a patient when they where sick? Anyway, I was able to make it thru nursing school with the “give the patient a container to throw up in when they feel sick and leave the room until they are done” technique and I learned the throw up thing was a common issue for many nurses.
A few weeks ago I had patient. I was giving him his meds and while he was ingesting them began to projectile vomit (almost 6 feet). It was greenish, probably bile. I kind of expected him to turn his head 360 degrees and speak in tongues. To be honest I was quite surprised he didn’t get vomit all over me. I was able to stay with him to console him and I didn’t feel at all sick myself; in fact vomit hasn’t bothered me for some time.
But here’s a new and more distressing turn of events. This week I almost got sick two different times with two different patients poop. The first patient had an active GI bleed and I was helping another nurse clean him up after an accident. Not only did I have to leave the room, but I even dry heaved on the way out. The other time, I was emptying an ileostomy and I dry heaved the whole time I was dumping it in to the toilette; I couldn’t flush fast enough.
Poop was never a problem form me before. I deal with poop ten times more often then puke. What am I gonna do? Is it just because they were from a GI bleed and an ileostomy or is poop beginning to be the problem for me?

I Know! I know! It’s been a long time…
Well I guess that it’s been a long while since I have posted. Here’s what’s been happening:
- Late November I left the hospital that I was working at… Long story, but basically their ideas on training and patient load (that how many patients per nurse) had a lot to be desired.
- I was offered jobs in December but they all didn’t start till January.
- Needless to say I was poor again at Christmas time.
- I helped out a whole bunch for my church choir’s big fundraiser in December for our pilgrimage to Italy in May and we raised $6,000.
- After much deliberation, I chose the hospital that had a unique internship opportunity. It allows me to rotate on different floors of the hospital till I find the “right fit”.
- The New Year started off with a new job, and internet dating.
- Yes that’s right, internet dating… And to think, I used to cringe at the thought of trying to find love this way. I haven’t found love yet, but I have met some nice guys.
- Two rotations into my internship, I think I have found my “right fit”; transplant services. It’s a busy floor with kidney, heart, liver, lung and pancreas transplant patients and patients with implanted left ventricular assist devices (LVAD’s for short). It’s a real interesting place, there’s much to learn, it’s kind of scary, has a great staff and a fantastic patient load factor (three to four patients per nurse).
- In May I will be going to Italy with my church choir. We will be going to Venice, Florence, Rome and Vatican City. We will singing at Wednesday mass in St. Peters Square and will have a private audience with the Pope. My sister Teri (Khadijateri) has plans to and will hopefully meet up with me while in Italy.
